Cold to the touch, 24thrs in Police custody
Are the Social Services fit for purpose?
Systematically removing good Father's, and not removing dangerous abusive men?
Baby Teddie Thomas Mitchell
Baby Teddie Thomas Mitchell of St Neots, Cambridgeshire, 11 weeks old suffered a cardiac arrest. Mum Lucy Smith, Dad Cane Smith called the emergency services.
Mum and dad were arrested after Dr's turned off the life support machines after baby Teddie having suffered catastrophic injuries. A major bleed on the brain and a fractured skull.
Baby Teddie's three siblings were placed with their natural biological father.
Police investigated how baby Teddie came to suffer such catastrophic injuries. Bleeding on the brain and fractured skull eliminating key areas. Whether baby Teddie had any pre existing illnesses or conditions, whether it was an accidental with one of the parents, or even one of the siblings. Or whether is was an inflicted injury likely to be one of the parents. Intentional deliberate abuse!
The house downs;
A neighbour stopped the police to inform them that she had spoken to Cane Mitchell on two different occasions, where he was shouting and taking her money and was just being so aggressive towards his partner, Lucy Smith.
Cane Mitchell and Lucy Smith
Both Lucy Smith and Cane Mitchell described their relationship of being a pretty happy one, pretty settled, good routines which was in complete contradictory of what was coming back from the house downs. Which was, really volatile, with lots and lots of swearing at each other, and lots of swearing at the kid's from Cane Mitchell. With neighbours often calling social services because they were so worried about his attitude towards the kids.Cane Mitchell
A neighbour living the flat directly underneath for four years, described a volatile household with a lot of shouting from Cane Mitchell towards the children. She went on saying during the summer with her windows open, she could hear everything. Describing viscous arguments between Lucy and Cane, describing Cane Mitchell as being an angry person. She said she called the police and knows of two other neighbours that called the police. The same neighbour said she moved here four years ago and Lucy Smith was already living there with the children's dad, then they split up after around two years. Lucy then started seeing a number of different men, then she met someone and got pregnant but then they split up. Not long after Lucy then met Cane Mitchell and moved him in soon after. So from her point of view the neighbour, Cane Mitchell is not the biological father.
Another neighbour contacted police saying that they have captured on video, evidence of Cane Mitchell's abusive and volatile behaviour towards mum, Lucy Smith.
Cane Mitchell's Former girlfriend
A former girlfriend of Cane Mitchell agreed to speak to detectives. She spoke about what Cane Mitchell was like with her children, going onto say she cried for days after hearing about baby Teddie, saying she knew this would happen. She described how in their relationship, there was nothing left of her as he would tell her what to say to social services and to the school, and did so otherwise there would be a beating coming afterwards. Strangling her, spitting in her face punching and slapping her, throwing things at her. Calling her names slag, slut, hore and fat cunt.
The post-mortem
The post-mortem
Lucy Thompson the Senior Detective investigating Police officer who has been in child protection for 20yrs, describes the post-mortem as a watershed moment. She said she has never investigated a case with that level of catastrophic injury to a baby. It's the realisation that it wasn't one single catastrophic injurie at the end, it was the combination of months of sustained ill-treatment.
Police Officer said the radiographer said the only other time that his seen a spinal compression like this before, at this level, was in a stamping. Holding the child up in the air and thrusting down hard onto object, table. And they suspect, 5 or 6 different events, at least! Due to seeing the healing regime, process and from birth.
Police told Cane Mitchell an interview that DNA results show, he is not Teddie's natural biological father.
Relationship interview with mum;
Lucy Smith was told about the post-mortem and the provisional cause of death which was the head injury, but with additional comments which where that on the basis of a naked eye examination. There's no evidence of any natural disease that caused or contributed to the death.

Police Officer Demonstrating the Thrusting Action
Unlikely to be the result of rough play. Unlikely to be the result of any interaction between siblings. Police Officer said that the radiographer said, this is akin to the baby P type of injuries, type of case, this is the territory we're in.
Police told Cane Mitchell an interview that DNA results show, he is not Teddie's natural biological father.
Relationship interview with mum;
Lucy Smith was told about the post-mortem and the provisional cause of death which was the head injury, but with additional comments which where that on the basis of a naked eye examination. There's no evidence of any natural disease that caused or contributed to the death.
With the presence of a skull fracture and a brain injury diagnosed in life, together with retinal haemorrhages behind both eyes is evidence of a head injury by either a shaking, or impact type of injuries. In other words, deliberately inflicted injuries!
There's was also evidence of rib fractures, potentially of different ages, along with evidence of lumbar spinal fractures and pubic fracturing, and these would be consistent with a compression or impact type injuries, so deliberately inflicted injuries!
Mother Lucy Smith said after questioned she has no idea how any of these injuries happened. When asked are you covering for anyone or is there anyone you are scared of, she replied no because at the end of the day that's my son, and he means more to me than anybody.
Lucy Smith was then questioned about her relationship with Cane Mitchell, she says all good don't really argue. The police then disclose neighbours report, calls to police and social services, neighbour concerned about her and children with her being hysterical and shouting with things being thrown, he said with Cane being drunk as his speech was slurred.
Lucy Smiths Dad says when they were staying with him that things weren't quite right, Cane was quite controlling and she continues to protect him.
Police tell her how they have been called out on a number of occasions due violence from Cane, she continues to protect him.
Police ask, is there one thing or anything that might cause Cane Mitchell to resent Teddie, she says no. The police then told her that they had done a DNA test and Cane Mitchell isn't Teddie's natural biological father.
Police interview with one of the older children. The child says, "I call him ugly Cane, I call him ugly Cane because he hits me and punches me in the arm. He basically grabbed hold of my leg clinching my foot really really hard, and dragged me in the room and my head was dragging on the floor and he threw me in the room."
Cane Mitchell while out on bail throws himself under a van doing 70mph on the A10 between Hertford and Ware, but remarkably survives!
